Families and Carers
We recognise that a person’s substance use has an impact on those around them; their family and carers, their children and their friends.
"You have helped us so much; Our daughter’s behaviour has improved massively and she is well engaged in treatment and going to meetings every day. I can’t thank you enough and it is great to know that you are always at the end of the phone."
We understand that your loved one's substance use can have a significant impact on you. We understand that this can be very upsetting, worrying and stressful for you and others who are involved in your loved one's life including partners, parents, friends and children.
We are here to help.
We provide support to anyone who is over 18 and lives in the Bristol area* who is affected by another person's drug or alcohol use. We can provide you with a confidential listening space to talk through your concerns and practical advice and skills on how best to cope with the problem.
"DHI’s support was also a massive benefit to my partner, he would most likely have been living apart from us by now. It helped with our communication, strategy and understanding for me what he was going through and therefore I could be of better support for him as I was looking after myself. It felt like a safe place to go and get help and I cannot express enough my worry about what I would have come to without it."
"The one to one sessions with you as well as the groups I went to were really helpful; I was so nervous the first time I came to a group that I could hardly speak but I quickly became more confident and found it so helpful to be with other people with similar experiences and to feel that I was not alone."
*The service is also open to people affected by a loved one's substance use who live elsewhere in the UK, if their loved one is accessing Bristol ROADS.
